SUMMARY:Vauxhall Island Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join us to help clean up Vauxhall Island and 14th Street’s Mayo Bridge. There is plenty of trash\, so bring a friend to help. This might not be kid-friendly trash picking. Meeting at 14th Street Whitewater takeout and either attain up by boat\, (there will be a few spots available in the raft or BYOBoat) or walk along 14th Street to Pick Up Trash. \nPlease bring/wear:\nClose-toed shoes\, boots might be preferred\nWork Gloves\nLong pants/shirts that can get dirty\nBottle of water \n—– \nThe James River Park System acquired the nearly three-acre Vauxhall Island two years ago and the island is under a conservation easement with the Capital Region Land Conservancy. \nThe acquisition from the Enrichmond Foundation (which purchased the island at auction in 2014) aligns with the Richmond Master Plan’s mandate to “preserve the river’s waterways and adjacent riparian lands” and to “increase public access to the James where appropriate and feasible.”

SUMMARY:Cleanup on Vauxhall Island
DESCRIPTION:JROC volunteers will meet at the 14th St whitewater takeout at 9am before heading over to Vauxhall Island to clean up trash and general debris. People with ‘residences’ on the island will be notified ahead of time of our cleanup efforts. JRPS will provide a trailer to haul debris away afterwards. The cleanup effort will be during low tide but we are going to try and use canoes to ferry people and trash. \nVauxhall Island is located just upstream of the 14th St Bridge North of Mayo Island.
