● JAMES RIVER OUTDOOR COALITION
Improving the James River Park System…
together.
JROC brings volunteers, donors, and community partners together to care for trails, improve river access, support education, and keep the park welcoming for everyone.
WHAT WE DO
Why JROC Exists
We support real improvements in and around the James River Park System. From river access and trail work, to education and volunteer projects, JROC helps turn community support into visible results across the park.

Stewardship
We care for the places people use and love.

Access
We support safer, more welcoming access to the river and park.

Education
We help connect people to the park through learning and informed advocacy.

Inclusion
We work to make river and park experiences more open to more people.

Community
Our work depends on volunteers, members, and partners.

Partnership
We get more done by working alongside park staff and allied groups.
Visible work. Real impact.

Trail and bridge improvements
Helping maintain the routes, crossings, and infrastructure that make the park more usable and resilient.
Universal Access at Huguenot Flatwater
Supporting long-term ADA-compliant river access and helping create a more connected James for paddlers of all abilities.
Outdoor education support
Partnering on spaces and improvements that help students and visitors learn in the park.
Cleanup and restoration
Removing debris, clearing invasives, and improving heavily used park spaces.
Access for all on the James.
The James River falls 110 feet over 7 miles through Richmond. JROC is building ADA-compliant access at both ends of the flatwater section, connecting paddlers of all abilities to the calmer upper James.
Programs like James River Women extend this commitment further — widening participation in river life and ensuring the park truly belongs to everyone in Richmond.
