‘King of the James’ is an individual, multi-sport event. You must be able to complete the course by possessing the skills of an EXPERIENCED trail runner, EXPERIENCED mountain biker, and EXPERIENCED whitewater kayaker. This is an extremely difficult course, with many hazards, and requires stamina as well as in-depth knowledge of all three sports. The course is subject to a variety of changing variables associated with being held in an ever changing outdoor environment. Please take this into consideration. If there is any question on your part, about completing any of the disciplines, please do not attempt ‘King of the James’. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the difficulty of the ‘King of the James’.
***REMEMBER! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AT THE ‘KING OF THE JAMES’. IF YOU SEE ANOTHER IN NEED OF HELP, PLEASE HELP!!!***
‘King of the James’ will be held on an open course, meaning there will be other park ‘users’ found on the trails, roads, and descending the falls of the James River. Please yield to these pedestrians. There will also be times where participants of the ‘King of the James’ will ride/run portions of the course on open roads. Follow the rules of the road and yield to moving vehicles.
Participants are responsible for their own safety. Please carry the safety equipment necessary to be in the outdoors for many hours. Carrying a cell phone is recommended.
We recognize that having the skill set to participate in all three disciplines is extremely challenging and ‘King of the James’ will accept teams banding together in order to complete the race. If your interest is to participate as an individual on a team, you must put together your own team.
